Lando Norris accused Max Verstappen of “not racing very smart” after their intense battles at the Miami Grand Prix, where McLaren’s Oscar Piastri secured victory with Norris finishing second.
Norris, who dropped positions early after tangling with Verstappen, felt the Red Bull driver’s aggressive defense against both McLarens cost him a podium. “He’s ruining his own race,” Norris stated, believing Verstappen could have finished third if not for the fights.
Verstappen, who finished fourth, shrugged off the criticism, saying he was “just wanted to have a bit of fun.”
Norris also felt his own race win was compromised by the first-lap incident with Verstappen. McLaren boss Andrea Stella suggested Norris could have been more patient.
Piastri’s win extends his championship lead over Norris, with Verstappen further back. The Australian admitted a tough fight with Verstappen initially but felt McLaren’s pace ultimately secured the one-two finish.
