Anthony Hamilton, Lewis Hamilton’s father and former manager, will take an official FIA role in young driver development.
He has been working with FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem on the programme for 18 months, with a formal announcement expected in June.
The move comes as Ben Sulayem faces re-election after a controversial term, including recent statute changes seen as increasing his control.
This also occurs against a backdrop of Lewis Hamilton’s public criticism of the FIA’s current leadership.
Hamilton commented on the FIA’s recent decisions, saying, “It seems a bit of a mess there at the moment… But it doesn’t really impact me at all.”
