Middle East Crisis Forces F1 Personnel Shuffle Ahead of 2026 Season Opener

Australian Grand Prix organizers are “really confident” the 2026 season opener will proceed as planned this weekend, despite massive travel disruption caused by escalating conflict in the Middle East.

Following strikes involving the US, Israel, and Iran, nearly 1,000 F1 personnel were forced to rearrange travel as key flight corridors through Qatar and the UAE were impacted.

To bypass the chaos, Formula 1 has organized three charter planes to ferry approximately 500 staff members from Europe to Melbourne.

“Everyone will be here ready for the race and fans won’t notice any difference,” said Australian F1 chief Travis Auld.

While all freight has already arrived for the March 6–8 event, officials are “closely monitoring” the situation ahead of upcoming April races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
