CHAN 2024: CAF Starts Recruitment Process For Interpreters to Provide Multilingual Match Coverage

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has issued a call for qualified freelance conference interpreters to support communication during the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), set to take place in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

In an official announcement, CAF revealed plans to establish a database of freelance interpreters proficient in French, English, Arabic, Portuguese, and Swahili to help facilitate multilingual communication throughout the tournament.

The selected interpreters will provide interpretation services during match press conferences, official meetings, and side events.

CAF emphasised that candidates should hold a diploma in conference interpreting from a recognised institution and must reside professionally in either Kenya, Uganda, or Tanzania.

In addition to fluency in the required languages, applicants with knowledge of football or sports terminology will have an added advantage.

“Freelance interpreters will be expected to deliver high-quality simultaneous or consecutive interpretation services as required at CHAN events,” read part of the statement from CAF.

Key skills required for the role include excellent comprehension of source languages, accuracy in interpretation, strong sentence construction, good diction, and the ability to work under pressure. Selected candidates must also be open to travel and eager to learn in a dynamic, international sports environment.

Successful applicants will be offered a one-month consultancy contract during the final stage of CHAN 2024.

Interested interpreters are required to submit their CVS, diploma certificates, and valid passport copies to [email protected] and complete registration through a link provided on CAF’s official platform. The deadline for applications is Sunday, June 15, 2025, at 00:00 GMT+3 (Cairo Time).

The African Nations Championship is one of CAF’s flagship competitions, bringing together the best locally based players across the continent.
