Edward Kiwanuka Welcomes Onyango’s Heathens Return, Eyes Discipline and Silverware

Longtime Heathens RFC supporter Edward Kiwanuka has expressed confidence in new head coach Tolbert Onyango’s ability to build on the club’s legacy, following the departure of Mohammad Athio.

Speaking on the sidelines of Athio’s farewell event at Kyadondo, Kiwanuka, a self-proclaimed die-hard fan, welcomed Onyango’s appointment and backed him to bring a fresh approach to the decorated club.

“He has played for Heathens, he has won it all. Since he is now at the forefront, we expect to see something very different,” Kiwanuka said.

Onyango, who also serves as head coach of the Uganda Rugby Sevens team, returns to Heathens with an intimate knowledge of the club and a strong coaching pedigree.

Kiwanuka believes the transition period will be crucial in aligning the players with their new coach’s vision.

“I expect to see more of the boys working and more discipline. When the time is right, the trophies will come in,” he added.

“It is now a transition. It is time for the coach to get to know the players and the players to get to know the coach. For now, we can say it is a work in progress but the trophies will come.”

Onyango takes over a squad that has enjoyed tremendous domestic success under Athio, and expectations remain high as a new chapter begins at Kyadondo.
