The South African U20 men’s national football team, Amajita, were met with a heroes’ welcome at OR Tambo International Airport on Tuesday, May 21, 2025, after winning the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Egypt.
Coach Raymond Mdaka’s side secured the title on Sunday, May 18, 2025, beating Morocco 1-0 in Cairo with a 70th-minute goal from Gomolemo Kekana.
Safa President Dr. Danny Jordaan, who was present at the final, praised the team’s success and highlighted the overall progress of South African national teams, attributing it to coaching stability and long-term projects.
He specifically lauded Coach Mdaka, who was voted the best coach in the tournament.
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi congratulated the team, expressing national pride and confidence in their future global success.
Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos also commended Mdaka’s leadership and the team’s strong performance.
