Uganda U-17 Coaching Team in Qatar for FIFA World Cup Preparations

Uganda U-17 national team head coach Brian Ssenyondo has described the just-concluded FIFA Elite Youth Coaching Course as a transformative experience that will elevate how coaches identify and develop football talent in the country.

According to Ssenyondo, one of the most impactful components was the training on individualized player tracking and progression—an approach that recognizes that each young athlete’s development journey is unique.

The course emphasized modern training techniques, with modules covering player decision-making, transition play, and age-specific drills.

“The course has been excellent,” Ssenyondo said. “We have gained a lot that we can pass on to players and fellow coaches. We have learned about talent identification, player development, coaching principles, and individual development, all crucial for our growth as coaches.”

Ssenyondo, a key figure in nurturing emerging national team players, believes that knowledge-sharing among coaches will be vital.

“This course wasn’t just about us learning—we have a responsibility to go back and raise the standards in our clubs and academies,” he added.

The U-17 coach said he was particularly impressed by the exposure to international methodologies and the integration of science in youth development.

He now hopes to build a more structured development framework for the national team setups.
