Hundreds Join Kampala Road Safety Marathon to Promote Responsible Road Use

The fourth edition of the Road Safety Marathon was held on Saturday in Kampala, highlighting the importance of responsible road usage in a bid to reduce the rising number of road accidents in Uganda.

With an average of 12 lives lost daily due to road crashes—the highest rate in East Africa—the event aimed to raise public awareness about road safety.

The annual run, which started at Old Kampala Secondary School, attracted hundreds of participants competing in the 5km walk, as well as 10km and 21km races.

Speaking to participants after the event, Minister for Works and Transport, Gen. Katumba Wamala, urged all road users to prioritize safety.

“It’s about saving lives, and every Ugandan must have it as the focus. We must all become responsible to protect lives and support the effort,” he said.

Proceeds from the marathon will go towards road safety awareness campaigns and post-trauma care services.

Next Media served as the official media partner for the event, which was organised by Legacy Road Safety Marathon.
