Coco Gauff has secured her first French Open singles title, defeating world number one Aryna Sabalenka 6-7 (5-7) 6-2 6-4 in a thrilling final at Roland Garros.
This victory marks the 21-year-old American’s second Grand Slam singles triumph, adding to her 2023 US Open crown, also won against Sabalenka.
Gauff battled back from a challenging start, overcoming a first-set deficit and Sabalenka’s significant unforced errors.
“I honestly didn’t think I could do it,” Gauff stated, celebrating her redemption after her tearful defeat in the 2022 French Open final.
Sabalenka, who was seeking her maiden Roland Garros title, conceded, “Congratulations to Coco – she was a better player than me,” after a match impacted by breezy conditions. The Belarusian’s 70 unforced errors proved costly.
