Heroes Marathon proprietor Leonard Mutesasira has called for urgent action to restore the environment and preserve forests, emphasizing the need to protect nature during this year’s run held in Busiika.
Hundreds of runners participated in the 5km, 10km, 21km, and 42km races under the theme “Our Trees, Our Heroes”—a campaign aimed at raising awareness about environmental conservation.
As the country continues to grapple with deforestation and faces the potential loss of all natural forests by 2050, this year’s Heroes Marathon placed a strong focus on environmental impact.
Mutesasira stressed the importance of a joint effort, particularly through forest regeneration, as a critical step toward supporting the cause.
This marked the fifth edition of the annual marathon, organized by Great Outdoors.
