Lady Rugby Cranes Mark Return To Women’s Africa Cup With Bronze Medal

Despite losing the final match of the tournament, Uganda’s senior women’s rugby national team, the Lady Rugby Cranes, were in jubilation.

This is because they had finished the tournament in third place, and earned themselves a bronze medal.

During the tournament played at the Stade Makis in Antananarivo, Madagascar from June 7-15, the Lady Rugby Cranes played three matches, lost two and won one.

Uganda’s Results at 2025 Rugby Africa Women’s Cup:

  • Round One: South Africa 62-07 Uganda
  • Round Two: Uganda 24-20 Madagascar
  • Round Three: Kenya 49-00 Uganda

They fell to defending champions South Africa and neighbours Kenya but upset hosts Madagascar in a tight contest.

Their tries were scored by Suzan Adong, Bushira Namutebi, Angella Nanyonjo, Lydia Namabiro and Grace Auma. The conversions were kicked by Grace Nabbagala and Janat Nandudu.

Uganda came into the tournament as the lowest ranked team. They had qualified through the Division One tournament in Côte d’Ivoire back in April.

They finish the tournament as the third-ranked team on the African continent (33rd on World Rugby Rankings) and will take part in next year’s edition.
