Peter Shalulile Speaks on FIFA Club World Cup, Dreams, and Denis Onyango’s Locker Room Banter

With the FIFA Club World Cup officially underway, Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile has opened up about the significance of the tournament, his personal dreams, and the memorable locker room moments that keep his spirits high.

“A Wonderful Feeling” – Shalulile on the Club World Cup Stage

For Shalulile, stepping onto the world stage is more than just another game, it’s a moment of self-discovery.

“It’s a wonderful feeling. You’re going to see the best players and best teams. It’s a big opportunity to see how good you are football-wise. We’re excited and ready for that.”

Electric Atmosphere and the Pressure to Perform

The Namibian international is already visualizing the charged atmosphere in the U.S., where the tournament will take place.

“You don’t want to disappoint at that level. There will be thousands of fans. Of course, you get butterflies, but they eventually go away. We expect an amazing, full pitch from day one.”

Winning Over the U.S. Fans

Playing on foreign soil doesn’t intimidate Shalulile, it motivates him.

“You can steal their hearts when you play well. Fans push you to be on your A-game. That’s why I enjoy playing in other countries, they embrace you.”

Facing Dortmund & Fluminense: Respect Meets Readiness

Shalulile speaks with maturity when sizing up potential opponents like Borussia Dortmund and Fluminense.

“With Dortmund, you go in with respect and bring your A-game. With Fluminense, it’s a lot of running. They love possession and build-up play. You need to be fit and take your chances.”

Big Ambitions for Sundowns

The striker is not traveling to the U.S. just for the experience, he’s going to compete.

“We don’t just go to make up the numbers. We want to be a team that others fear. Personally, I want to score four goals in the group stages.”

Flying the Namibian Flag High

Shalulile is on the brink of history, set to become the first Namibian to feature in a senior-tier FIFA tournament.

“It’s massive. If I can do it, others can too. It’s possible. You just have to go out there and chase it.”

A Proud Moment for Namibia

The pride he feels isn’t just personal, it’s national.

“People back home are excited. They’ll be glued to their TV screens, watching and hoping I do well.”

From the Streets to the Spotlight

Shalulile’s journey from playing barefoot on Namibian streets to the global stage is a tale of perseverance.

“Where I come from, we played street football. I always believed I was good enough, and I just kept going. This is where it brought me.”

The Locker Room Joker: Denis Onyango

Asked who brings the most laughs in the Sundowns camp, Shalulile doesn’t hesitate.

“Denis Onyango. He never stops talking, on the phone, in meetings, even when we lose. He’s always cracking jokes. He’s my roommate, and honestly, he keeps the mood light.”

As Mamelodi Sundowns gear up for their FIFA Club World Cup journey, Peter Shalulile embodies resilience, ambition, and national pride, representing not just his club, but a continent that continues to rise on the global football stage.
