Manchester United has ignited fury among its fanbase by announcing matchday ticket prices could reach an unprecedented £97, following the club’s worst domestic season in over 50 years.
Fans and the Manchester United Supporters Trust (MUST) are calling the move a “kick in the teeth.”
Last season, the most expensive tickets were £66.
This new pricing structure introduces four categories, with the top-tier “Category A” games against rivals like Arsenal and Liverpool demanding the £97 price point.
While club officials state this applies to less than 1% of tickets, MUST vehemently denies any genuine consultation with supporters took place.
MUST criticized the club for making decisions “against the interests of fans” and warned the new model could “undermine the atmosphere” at Old Trafford.
Despite club assurances that ticket revenue is vital for finances and that tiered pricing is common among rivals, the decision has deepened the rift between the club and its disillusioned supporters.
