Former Cameroon, Real Madrid, and Chelsea star Geremi Njitap has been banned from all football activities for five years by the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT).
The ban, announced on Saturday, stems from unspecified “incidents” during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Geremi, currently the head of the Cameroon Footballers’ Union (SYNAFOC), is a vocal critic of FECAFOOT’s leadership under Samuel Eto’o.
This decision further fuels the ongoing controversies plaguing FECAFOOT.
Fans are now calling for a resolution, recognizing Geremi’s vital role in representing players and his contributions to domestic football.
The ban adds to a series of scandals surrounding Eto’o’s presidency.
Geremi has ten days to appeal the decision, with strong indications he may take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
The international players’ union, FIFPRO, has already pledged its full support for Geremi, urging FIFA and CAF to intervene.
