Chelsea have finalized a £60m deal to sign Brazilian forward Joao Pedro from Brighton.
The 23-year-old is en route for a medical in the US, with a potential FIFA Club World Cup debut against Palmeiras on Friday.
Pedro’s arrival follows the £55m signing of Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund, though Gittens is ineligible for the tournament.
Brighton reportedly rejected two previous bids for Pedro, who amassed 30 goals and 10 assists in 70 matches for the Seagulls.
This summer, Chelsea has spent around £170m on young talent, including Liam Delap, Dario Essugo, and Mamadou Sarr.
While some see an “embarrassment of riches” in attack, Chelsea believes the new additions, including Pedro, will thrive, especially with their return to Champions League football.
Pedro’s signing is expected to lead to the departure of Christopher Nkunku, while Gittens replaces Jadon Sancho.
Chelsea plan to focus on player sales next, with Joao Felix, Raheem Sterling, Armando Broja, and Carney Chukwuemeka among those likely to be offloaded.
