The NCS Arena in Lugogo was electric over the weekend as the Uganda Boxing Champions League (UBCL) returned for Week 5 of Season 4, delivering hard-hitting action and a night packed with surprises.
The main event in the elite light-welterweight (63.5 kg) category saw Lukanga’s Farahat Maninora put on a tactical masterclass to outpoint Boggie BC’s Ambayo Patrick.
The bout, marked by tight exchanges and sharp counters, ended with Maninora getting the nod from the judges in a composed and well-managed performance.
But it was in the elite 71 kg category where the night’s biggest shock came.
Katabi’s Kasasa Isaac handed a bitter loss to the returning “Horse Power” Serugo Bashir.
In his comeback fight following a near-death incident earlier this year, Serugo couldn’t find his rhythm and fell short in a 4–1 split-decision loss.
Kasasa, calm and clinical, silenced the crowd and firmly planted his name among the division’s rising threats.
Elsewhere, Lukanga’s Nsamba Ronald outpointed Boggie’s Walugembe Emma in another 4–1 split decision, while in the youth ranks, Kalinabiri’s Nsubuga Samuel and Zebra’s Kayemba Imran both delivered dominant 5–0 victories over Muwanguzi Anison and Kayanja Twaib, respectively.
The junior 52 kg category saw a swift end as Lukanga’s Makubuya Peter stopped Mutajjazi’s Nyote Elija in the first round with a referee-stopped contest (RSC).
In the final bout of the evening, youth boxer Mwenda Joshua sealed the night with a slick 5–0 performance over Nasasira Moses.
