Uganda Rugby 15s Team Manager Andrew Charles Ikopit says the players are in high spirits and fully focused as they prepare for the Rugby Africa Cup, which also serves as the qualifier for the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
“The boys have been in high spirits since they came back from South Africa,” Ikopit said.
“We decided to keep them together in one place to maintain focus, so we booked them into a hotel where they train from. The atmosphere is good, the mindset is right, and everyone understands what’s at stake.”
Uganda, who will face Kenya in a high-pressure quarterfinal on July 8, are counting on both unity and experience.
Many of the players were part of last year’s squad, and Ikopit says the team is now benefiting from the addition of a foreign coach.
“I won’t call him white — he’s a foreign coach, and he adds value. He’s brought a fresh perspective, building on what our local coaches have already done with the boys over the past year. This is really about polishing up, adding a few insights, and strengthening the team where needed.”
With preparations entering the final stretch, Uganda’s home advantage and disciplined build-up could prove crucial in their quest to secure a World Cup spot.
