Teenage sensation Mirra Andreeva dominated her way into the Wimbledon fourth round today, defeating American Hailey Baptiste 6-1, 6-3.
The 18-year-old Russian, a hot prospect in the sport, continues her impressive run after reaching the French Open semi-finals last month.
This marks Andreeva’s second time in the Wimbledon last 16.
“I always expect something from myself but I always try to let myself go and enjoy. I feel with every match I play, my level is rising,” said Andreeva, who is coached by former SW19 champion Conchita Martinez.
She now faces a tougher challenge against either reigning champion Barbora Krejcikova or Emma Navarro.
Meanwhile, former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina was ousted in a major upset, falling 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 to Denmark’s Clara Tauson.
The match on Court Two was significantly disrupted by rain delays. Tauson, who had no prior wins on grass before this tournament, expressed her pride in the victory. She will now face either Iga Swiatek or Danielle Collins.
