Max Verstappen secured a thrilling pole position for the British Grand Prix today, edging out McLaren’s Oscar Piastri on his final qualifying lap.
The Red Bull driver’s last-gasp effort put him just 0.103 seconds ahead of Piastri, setting up an exciting race tomorrow.
Lando Norris, Piastri’s McLaren teammate, qualified a close third, with Mercedes’ George Russell in fourth.
Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc finished fifth and sixth, respectively, after their promising pace faded towards the end of the session.
Grid penalties will impact tomorrow’s start, with British rookie Oliver Bearman (Haas) dropping to 18th and Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes) to tenth. These penalties promote Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) and Pierre Gasly (Alpine) into the top 10.
Verstappen acknowledged the challenging wind conditions but was pleased with his low-downforce setup, which, despite making the car “on edge,” delivered the necessary speed.
Piastri, though unable to improve on his second lap, remains confident, while Norris anticipates a fierce battle among the front-runners.
