19 Ugandans Selected for African Junior Athletics Championships

Uganda Athletics has confirmed a 19-member national team set to compete at the 4th CAA African U18 and U20 Athletics Championships, taking place from July 16 to 20 in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria.

The squad includes 8 male and 11 female athletes who will go head-to-head with some of the continent’s top young talents. Uganda joins 42 other nations in the competition, which will feature a total of 937 athletes.

Heavyweights like Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Egypt are expected to headline the action.

Uganda’s athletes will showcase their strength in both track and field, bringing together a mix of endurance runners and sprinters.

The championships will run alongside the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Congress, adding further weight to the week-long showcase of talent.

Team Uganda – Male Athletes:
Cherop Samuel, Otim David, Wananda Earnest, Krube Fadil, Chemutai Hosea, Cherotich Victor, Kipyeko Dan, and Sande Jacob.

Team Uganda – Female Athletes:
Chepkwemoi Felister, Chepkwemoi Brenda, Chepkwurui Nancy, Chelimo Keren, Yeko Bentalin, Chebet Keziah, Chebet Isella, Cherop Charity, Cherop Risper, Awat Mary, and Aribariho Kemigisha.

Uganda’s delegation carries high hopes, banking on its young runners to grab medals and make a statement on the continental scene.
