President Donald Trump will attend Sunday’s FIFA Club World Cup final in New Jersey, a move that highlights the deepening relationship between the US administration and global football.
This announcement follows FIFA’s recent opening of an office in New York’s Trump Tower.
The US is hosting the first expanded Club World Cup, with the final at MetLife Stadium, which will also host next year’s FIFA World Cup final.
President Trump chairs a taskforce overseeing preparations for both tournaments.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino praised the strong support from the US government, stating, “We have received such a big support from the government and from the president.”
Infantino emphasized that FIFA’s new Trump Tower office will strengthen its relationship with the US administration, ensuring a “local” presence in New York.
Despite ongoing concerns about Trump’s immigration policies and travel bans, Infantino has assured fans of a warm welcome to the US.
President Trump has significantly increased his presence in sports during his second term, attending the Super Bowl and announcing Washington D.C. as the host for the 2027 NFL Draft, among other high-profile sporting engagements.
