Marc Brys has resigned as coach of the Cameroon national football team, just five months before the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals and with 2026 World Cup qualification still undecided.
The Belgian cited unpaid salaries for himself and his staff as the reason for his departure.
Brys, who took the helm in April 2024, has had a strained relationship with Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) president Samuel Eto’o, despite his position being funded by the Ministry of Sports.
In a letter to the ministry, Brys stated his decision to “unilaterally terminate the said contract for cause, due to the non-payment of my remuneration and that of my staff for more than 60 days.”
FECAFOOT confirmed the resignation, stating they would “implement a coordinated response to mitigate the impact of this vacancy.”
Cameroon faces defending champions Ivory Coast, Gabon, and Mozambique in their AFCON group.
They are also currently second in their World Cup qualifying pool, a point behind Cape Verde with four rounds remaining.
