Lewis Hamilton is stepping up his efforts to transform Ferrari into championship contenders, asserting he’s “challenging every area” of the team.
The 40-year-old Briton has had a tough start to his Ferrari debut, with only a sprint-race win in China as a podium finish, unlike teammate Charles Leclerc who has four.
“It is a huge organisation with a lot of moving parts and not all of them are firing on all cylinders,” Hamilton stated, emphasizing his role in challenging the team, “particularly those at the top.”
Ferrari hasn’t won a title since 2008 (constructors’) or 2007 (drivers’), despite having top talents like Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel.
Hamilton refuses for his tenure to follow the same pattern: “I refuse for that to be the case with me, that’s why I am going the extra mile.” He’s even penned documents for leadership and met with top executives to discuss improvements.
“There have been great responses… I’m trying to create allies within the organisation,” he added. Hamilton’s ultimate goal is clear: “I’m here to win. It’s crunch time for me and I truly believe in the potential of this team.”
Ferrari is introducing a new rear suspension for the Belgian Grand Prix this weekend, hoping it will improve performance.
“We’ll get to test the suspension tomorrow,” Hamilton said, optimistic about extracting more performance.
