Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is reportedly looking to leave the club this summer after being excluded from the pre-season tour of Asia.
While Newcastle cited a “minor thigh injury” for his absence from the 30-man squad, sources suggest the 25-year-old Swede is keen to explore other options.
Liverpool, despite recently signing Hugo Ekitike, is understood to still be interested in Isak.
This news comes despite manager Eddie Howe’s previous assurances that Isak would “absolutely” be part of the tour and remain at the club, stating, “Alex is happy at Newcastle.”
Isak, who scored 27 goals last season, was notably absent from Newcastle’s 4-0 pre-season loss to Celtic.
Newcastle maintains that Isak is not for sale, valuing him at around £130m. With three years left on his contract and strong financial backing from Saudi Arabia’s PIF, the club is under no pressure to sell. Most Premier League clubs would struggle to meet their valuation.
Isak’s potential departure and pre-season absence have sparked worry among fans. Comments range from questioning the “thigh injury” as an excuse to concerns about the club’s transfer activity and the need for clarity from Isak himself.
