Former Manchester United striker Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez has publicly apologized for making sexist remarks on TikTok, which led to a fine and a warning from the Mexican Football Federation (FMF).
The 37-year-old, now with Liga MX side Chivas, expressed “deep regret” for his comments, stating they were never intended to “hurt or divide.”
Hernandez’s controversial statements, made last weekend, included suggestions that women were “failing” and “eradicating masculinity,” and advising them to “allow yourselves to be led by a man.”
These remarks drew widespread criticism, including from Mexico’s first female President, Claudia Sheinbaum.
In an Instagram apology, Hernandez said he was “listening, reflecting and committed to expressing myself with better clarity and sensitivity.”
Both the FMF and Chivas confirmed action has been taken, with the FMF warning of “more severe measures in the event of a repeat offence.”
