Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte has confirmed the squad’s continued faith in manager Ruben Amorim, despite the team’s dismal 15th-place Premier League finish last season and failure to qualify for the Champions League.
Amorim, who took charge in November, oversaw United’s worst-ever Premier League performance, with just seven wins in 27 league matches. They also lost the Europa League final 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur.
“We have to improve things,” Ugarte told British media, acknowledging the team’s struggles. However, he emphasized, “We are all very motivated, because we believe in the coach, we believe in what he wants and that is very important.”
Ugarte attributed some issues to mid-season changes in coach and formation. He also stressed the responsibility of playing for United and the time needed for new connections to form.
United’s pre-season kicks off in the US with matches against Bournemouth in Chicago on Wednesday and Everton in Atlanta on Sunday.
They’ll then face Fiorentina at Old Trafford on August 9 before starting their new Premier League season against Arsenal on August 17.
