Former Rams RUFC player Daniel Balam Lubangakene has this Wednesday, July 30, 2025, been laid to rest at his ancestral home in Puranga, Pader district.
Balam, as he was fondly known, succumbed to cancer of the colon on July 23, 2025, at Gulu Hospital where he had been undergoing treatment.
Before he fell ill about a year ago, Balam enjoyed a low key rugby career as a prop in the top tier Uganda Rugby Premiership. Although he wasn’t popular within rugby circles, he was one of Rams’ strong pillars on and off the pitch.
Rams RUFC published a heartfelt message on their Twitter/X page bidding Balam farewell.
“It is hard for us to accept that you are gone. You gave the team hope in the toughest of the times. You have really fought a good fight. Even in sickness you stood strong and cheered the team. We shall miss you Balam.”
May Balam’s soul rest in eternal peace.
