The TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) Group B kicks off this Sunday as two-time champions Morocco face Angola at the National Stadium in Nairobi.
This will be the first-ever CHAN meeting between the two nations.
Morocco enters the tournament with an impressive record, having won the last two CHAN titles and boasting a 13-game unbeaten streak.
The Atlas Lions have never lost an opening match and are undefeated against Southern African teams in the competition.
Angola, also making their fifth appearance, hopes to break their winless streak in opening matches.
While they have never won their first game, the Palancas Negras finished as runners-up in 2011 and will be eager to start their campaign on a high note under coach Pedro Gonçalves, who sees the tournament as a crucial step for his long-term project.
This highly anticipated match will be a test for both teams, with Morocco’s dominant history clashing against Angola’s determination to make a mark in the competition.
