Tanzania’s Taifa Stars secured an impressive 2-0 victory against Burkina Faso to kick off their 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) campaign at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
The home team dominated the match, with Toto coming close early on, forcing a spectacular save from Burkina Faso’s goalkeeper, Souna.
The breakthrough came just before halftime when Abdul Suleyman Sopu converted a penalty in the 45+2 minute, putting Tanzania ahead 1-0.
In the second half, Hussein sealed the win in the 72nd minute, heading in a perfectly placed cross from Didi Ali to double the lead.
The 2-0 win gives Tanzania a strong start to the tournament in front of their home fans, earning them all three points.
