Lando Norris has won the Hungarian Grand Prix after a tense battle with his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri.
Norris, who was on a one-stop strategy, held off a late-race charge from Piastri to take his fifth victory of the season, cutting Piastri’s championship lead to just nine points.
Polesitter Charles Leclerc initially led the race, but different strategies among the frontrunners shook up the order.
Norris’s strategy allowed him to inherit the lead, with Piastri closing the gap rapidly in the final laps. Despite several attempts to overtake, Piastri couldn’t find a way past, finishing just 0.698 seconds behind.
George Russell claimed the final podium spot for Mercedes, while a struggling Leclerc dropped to fourth after receiving a five-second penalty for erratic driving.
Further down the field, Fernando Alonso secured fifth for Aston Martin, followed by an impressive performance from rookie Gabriel Bortoleto in sixth for Kick Sauber.
Max Verstappen finished ninth after a difficult race, and Lewis Hamilton had a tough weekend, finishing outside the points in 12th. The race also saw the retirement of Haas’s Ollie Bearman.
