Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has publicly criticized UEFA’s tribute to the late Palestinian footballer Suleiman al-Obeid, who was killed while waiting for humanitarian aid in Gaza.
The Palestinian Football Association stated that Obeid, known as the “Palestinian Pele,” was killed in an Israeli attack.
On Friday, UEFA posted a tribute on X that made no mention of the circumstances surrounding his death.
On Saturday, Salah responded to the post by asking, “Can you tell us how he died, where, and why?”
The 33-year-old Egyptian has been a vocal advocate for humanitarian aid to be allowed into Gaza. The conflict, which began in October 2023, has resulted in over 61,300 deaths in Gaza.
