Liverpool have officially completed the signing of 18-year-old Italian defender Giovanni Leoni from Parma for a fee of £26 million plus add-ons.
Leoni, an Italy Under-19 international, has signed a contract until 2031.
The young center-back, who was also a target for both Milan clubs, told the club website it was “not possible to say no” to Liverpool.
The transfer provides crucial cover in central defense following the sale of Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen.
Standing at 6ft 5in, Leoni is known for his aerial ability and composure on the ball.
He is expected to learn from his idol, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk. The deal is still subject to a work permit and international clearance.
