BlackRock claimed a 19-8 victory over the Uganda All Stars in an exhibition match on August 16 at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds, a contest that lived up to its billing despite heavy rain delaying kickoff by over an hour.
The Irish visitors controlled the opening half with disciplined play, striking first through openside flanker Ciaran Patchell in the 18th minute.
Winger Jamie Rogan added a second try before halftime, both converted by fly half James Fennelly, to give BlackRock a 12-0 cushion. Uganda’s only first-half response came from a William Nkore penalty, sending the sides into the break at 12-3.
The All Stars rallied after the interval, with veteran Micheal Wokorach crossing the line to cut the deficit to 12-8 and set up a tense final quarter.
Backed by a vocal home crowd that included dignitaries such as the Irish Ambassador to Uganda and Prince Wassajja, the Ugandan side pushed hard but could not break down BlackRock’s organised defence.
A late try from the visitors sealed the 19-8 result, ensuring BlackRock left Kampala with a statement win. The contest, however, highlighted the fight and spirit of the Uganda All Stars, who turned the second half into a genuine battle..
