A stunning free-kick from Eberechi Eze was disallowed by VAR, as Crystal Palace held Chelsea to a goalless draw at Stamford Bridge.
Eze, whose future is uncertain amid links to Tottenham, scored a beautiful goal in the 13th minute, but it was ruled out because teammate Marc Guehi was deemed to be too close to Chelsea’s wall when the kick was taken.
The result was a frustrating one for Chelsea, who had five new signings make their league debuts.
The Blues, fresh off a Club World Cup victory, spent an estimated £250 million on new attackers but struggled to create chances against an organized Palace defense.
