Ponsiano Lwakataka and his co-driver Paul Musaazi tightened their grip on the National Rally Championship after storming to a fourth straight victory in the UMC Fort Portal Tourism Rally over the weekend.
Behind the wheel of a Subaru Impreza N12, the two-time national champion produced a flawless run across Kyenjojo and Fort Portal, leading from start to finish. Lwakataka, popularly known as Mafu Mafu, sealed the home win in a commanding time of 1 hour, 20 minutes, and 53 seconds.
The rally had been tipped to deliver a close battle given the strong field of entrants, but Lwakataka and Musaazi quickly stamped their authority, leaving rivals chasing their dust. Ronald Sebuguzi and Anthony Mugambwa, in a Ford Fiesta Proto, finished second, while Julius Semambo, also called Team Mukalo, clinched the two-wheel drive category in a Toyota Corolla. He was followed by Ibrahim Lubega Pasuwa and Mansoor Lubega.
This victory, Lwakataka’s fourth podium of the season, ensures the Shell-sponsored crew remains firmly in first place on the NRC standings, keeping his bid for the 2025 national title on track.
Attention now shifts to Gulu, where the sixth round of the championship will take place during Independence Week, before the season finale in Hoima Oil City.
