Olomi, Nyanchama Head into Final Round Tied at Uganda Ladies Open

Tanzania’s Neema Olomi and Kenya’s Mercy Nyanchama will go into the final round of the 2025 Johnnie Walker Uganda Open Golf Championship Ladies Open tied for the lead after two rounds at Lugazi Hills Golf and Country Club.

Both players sit on a total gross of 153. Olomi, the 2018 champion, had led after day one but struggled on Friday, carding 80 with a 41 on the front nine and 39 on the back nine. She admitted to battling inconsistencies but said she was focused on regrouping for Saturday’s decisive round.

Nyanchama, chasing her first Uganda Ladies Open crown, shot an impressive 75 on day two, improving on her opening round. Her card featured birdies on holes one and 13, with only four bogeys recorded. She said she felt settled on the course and would approach the final round with composure.

Uganda’s leading contender, three-time champion Martha Babirye, remains in contention despite dropping shots on day two. She finished with an 80, tied for third alongside Kenya’s Ashley Awor at 157. Babirye admitted the heat and an early setback on hole two cost her rhythm but stressed she was confident of mounting a strong challenge in the closing round.

National team player Winnie Musuya sits fifth on 164, ahead of defending champion Iddy Madina Hussein on 165. Uganda’s Meron Kyomugisha (167), Lillian Koowe (169), and Joweria Namnda (172) also feature in the top ten alongside Tanzania’s Vicky Elias (172).

The final round on Saturday will be played alongside the men’s subsidiaries, while the event’s 19th Hole experience will feature the She Walks Sip Over celebration under Johnnie Walker’s She Walks Mentorship Program. Entertainment will be provided by Vinka with MC Ronnie as host.

The Johnnie Walker Uganda Open is backed by Absa Bank Uganda, Aquafina, Isuzu Mac East Africa, Uganda Tourism Board, Medisell Uganda, NBS Sport, and MTN MoMo.
