Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Dutch attacking midfielder Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig for a club-record fee of £51.8 million (€60m).
The 22-year-old, who was a top target for several European clubs this summer, expressed his excitement, stating he had “been dreaming of this for a long time.”
Simons joins Thomas Frank’s side after a successful stint at Leipzig, where he scored 22 goals and provided 24 assists in 78 appearances.
A versatile player, Simons is expected to play on the left of Tottenham’s front three. His arrival is seen as a major boost for the team, which missed out on other targets like Eberechi Eze and Morgan Gibbs-White.
Analysts highlight his creative prowess, noting he provided more than seven passes into the box per game last season.
The transfer marks a new chapter for the highly-rated talent, who rose to prominence through Barcelona’s La Masia academy and has also scored five goals in 28 appearances for the Netherlands national team.
