Kasozi Rejects Bribery Claims Over UPL Reforms

Kitara Head of Resource Mobilization Deo Kasozi has dismissed accusations that club chairmen were bribed or threatened into backing the new Uganda Premier League reforms.

The allegations were raised by Vipers SC President Lawrence Mulindwa, who claimed football authorities coerced the 13 chairmen who publicly supported the reforms due to start in the 2025/26 season.

Kasozi said the decision was made independently, describing the chairmen as leaders not easily swayed.

“They made an independent choice to back reforms they believe will strengthen the league,” he said.

He also echoed FUFA president Moses Magogo’s call for government support to topflight clubs, arguing that financial backing will be key if the reforms are to have meaningful impact.

The reforms aim to overhaul the structure and management of the league in what FUFA say is an effort to professionalize Ugandan football and attract more investment.
