Kampala Queens Fall to Rayon Sports in CAF WCL Qualifiers Semifinal

Uganda’s Kampala Queens wrapped up their 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Qualifiers campaign with a fourth-place finish after falling 1-0 to Kenya Police Bullets in the third-place playoff on Tuesday at Kasarani Stadium.

The decisive moment came in the 25th minute when former Kampala Queens player Margret Kunihira struck for the Kenyan side, securing bronze and denying the Queens a first medal at the regional showpiece.

The FUFA Women Super League champions had entered the playoff hoping to bounce back from their semifinal heartbreak, where they lost 4-3 on penalties to Rayon Sports Women after a goalless draw.

A victory would have marked progress from their debut in 2023, when they failed to get past the group stage.

Kampala Queens were dealt a blow before kickoff with the absence of defender Jolly Kobusinge, who picked up a thigh injury during the semifinal.

Esther Namusoke stepped in, but the backline still struggled to contain a determined Bullets side.

Kenya Police Bullets also had to adjust after losing Ugandan defender Desire Katisi Natooro to national U20 duty, yet they showed efficiency in front of goal.

Kampala Queens’ elimination in their second continental outing continues Uganda’s wait for a representative in the CAF Women’s Champions League finals.
