Despite Wolverhampton Wanderers’ poor start to the season, manager Vitor Pereira is close to signing a new deal with the club.
The Portuguese coach, whose current contract expires at the end of the campaign, is expected to finalize an agreement before this weekend.
The decision underscores the club’s faith in Pereira, who took over from Gary O’Neil last December.
Wolves currently sit at the bottom of the Premier League table after losing their first four league games. They will host Leeds on Saturday and could become only the sixth team in Premier League history to lose their opening five matches.
Executive chairman Jeff Shi has expressed strong support for the manager, stating, “Wolves need stability now – we need a coach to stay here and help us for a long time.”
Shi highlighted the importance of team chemistry and unity, noting that Pereira has improved the team spirit since his arrival.
Last season, Pereira successfully guided Wolves from the bottom three to a 16th-place finish, securing their safety with 17 points to spare.
Their impressive run of six successive Premier League wins between March and April helped them avoid relegation early, although they have not won in the top flight since their 3-0 victory over Leicester at the end of that run.
