Chelsea’s struggles deepened after a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United, compounded by an injury to key player Cole Palmer.
The 23-year-old, who has been battling a groin issue since the summer, lasted only 21 minutes in what was his first start since the season opener.
Manager Enzo Maresca provided a day-by-day update on Palmer’s fitness, stating the player “was not 100%” but wanted to help the team.
Maresca also confirmed that surgery is not currently being considered by the medical staff.
The early substitution was one of three made by Chelsea within the first 21 minutes, a Premier League first.
The team is now hoping to bounce back from consecutive defeats in their upcoming EFL Cup match.
