Aston Villa’s impressive form has hit a snag, as the team’s miserable start to the season continued with a 1-1 draw against newly promoted Sunderland.
Despite playing for over an hour with a man advantage, Unai Emery’s side couldn’t secure their first Premier League win of the campaign.
The result leaves Villa in the bottom three, and their goal-scoring woes are a major concern. A long-range strike from Matty Cash was their first league goal of the season, ending a barren run of 427 minutes.
Emery was visibly frustrated, describing his team’s defending as “lazy” after they failed to hold on to the lead against 10 men.
The struggles come after a challenging summer where the club lost key attacking loan players Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio.
With new signing Evann Guessand yet to score and top striker Ollie Watkins in a goal drought, the pressure is mounting on Villa to turn their form around in upcoming games against Fulham and Burnley.
