Pressure is mounting sharply on Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim after his side suffered a disjointed 3-1 defeat at Brentford, squandering the momentum from their recent victory over Chelsea.
The loss leaves United in the bottom half of the Premier League and extends their dismal winless run away from home to eight league games, their longest stretch since 2019.
Amorim, who has collected just 34 points from 33 league games and has yet to achieve back-to-back victories, insisted he is “never concerned about my job.”
However, pundits are questioning the club’s direction. Ex-Arsenal defender Martin Keown noted that Amorim’s win percentage is only 1% better than that of the recently sacked Graham Potter.
The defeat was marked by poor tactical execution and key errors. United conceded two “shambolic” early goals and saw Bruno Fernandes miss a penalty.
Critics, including Micah Richards, are increasingly pointing to Amorim’s “stubborn” refusal to abandon his 3-4-2-1 system.
While Amorim defended his system, he admitted his frustration that the team failed to execute a game plan designed to counter Brentford.
