West Ham United have appointed Nuno Espírito Santo as their new head coach on a three-year contract, replacing Graham Potter, who was sacked on Saturday morning.
The 51-year-old Nuno, who recently left Nottingham Forest, will take charge of his first match on Monday away at Everton.
Potter was dismissed after only eight months, with West Ham sitting 19th in the Premier League after collecting just three points from their first five games.
“I am very pleased to be here and very proud,” Nuno said. “My objective is to work hard to get the very best from the team.”
West Ham stated that the change was “necessary in order to help improve the team’s position… Results and performances… have not matched expectations.”
Potter acknowledged his exit, saying, “I do, however, fully acknowledge that the results have just not been good enough up to now.”
Nuno led Forest to a seventh-place finish last season and West Ham is his fourth Premier League club.
