The 2025/26 StarTimes Uganda Premier League kicked off this weekend with six games across the country and a string of eye-catching individual displays that set the tone for the new season.
At the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, BUL goalkeeper Denis Ssewagudde was unbeatable in a goalless draw with URA FC, earning the first Man of the Match award of the campaign.
In Entebbe, Buhimba United Saints got their debut top-flight win, a 1–0 victory over Entebbe UPPC, thanks to the control and creativity of John Wesley Kisaakye, who took home the day’s honors.
Hoima City hosted a tense 1–1 draw between Kitara FC and KCCA FC, but it was KCCA’s hard-running midfielder Ssengendo Sharif who impressed the most. Lugazi Stadium produced the biggest result of the evening as Lugazi swept Calvary FC 3–1, with forward Sharif Saaka leading the charge and walking away with the prize.
Elsewhere, Express FC edged UPDF 1–0 at the Hamz Stadium behind a commanding midfield effort from Yosia Kisa. The night closed at Kiira Road Police Arena where Police FC and Mbarara City shared the points in a 1–1 draw. Mbarara’s Reagan Matega stood out with a decisive all-action display.
FUFA confirmed that each Man of the Match on opening weekend pockets 100,000 shillings, with bonuses climbing to 200,000 in Round Two and 500,000 in Round Three.
The governing body has earmarked a total of 74 million shillings for the season’s Man of the Match program.
