AC Milan climbed to the top of the Serie A table on Sunday after defeating Napoli 2-1 at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
American forward Christian Pulisic was instrumental, setting up Alexis Saelemaekers’ opener in the third minute before scoring himself in the 31st to give Milan a commanding half-time lead.
The match dramatically tightened in the second half when Milan left-back Pervis Estupiñán was sent off in the 57th minute (following a VAR review) for a foul on Giovanni di Lorenzo.
Kevin De Bruyne converted the resulting penalty three minutes later.
Despite playing with a man advantage, Antonio Conte’s Napoli suffered their first league loss of the season as Massimiliano Allegri’s side held on for the 2-1 victory.
The win lifts Milan to 12 points from five games, putting them level on points with both Napoli and Roma, who also secured a 2-0 win over Hellas Verona.
