Defending champion Coco Gauff has booked her spot in the China Open semi-finals, securing a straight-sets victory over Eva Leys.
The world number three triumphed 6-3, 6-4 in a match that lasted one hour and 28 minutes.
Gauff, a two-time Grand Slam winner, displayed an impressive performance, breaking Leys three times in the opening set.
“I’m happy with how I played – she’s a tough opponent and she hit some incredible shots on the run but I tried my best to play aggressive and good tennis,” Gauff commented after the match.
She emphasized the importance of staying confident and avoiding passive play, even with a lead.
The American, who has faced some serve challenges this season, showcased a strong 79% first serve percentage during the match.
This victory comes after Gauff’s earlier exit from Wimbledon, despite winning the French Open this year.
She is now the highest-ranked player remaining in the China Open and will face either Amanda Anisimova or Jasmine Paolini in the final four.
