Twenty-four Ugandan coaches have successfully completed the World Athletics Coaches Education and Certification System (CECS) Level 1 course, marking another milestone in the country’s efforts to raise the standards of athletics coaching.
The week-long program, which ran from October 1 to 7 at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, combined two days of online instruction with five days of hands-on training.
It brought together 8 female and 16 male coaches from different parts of the country, all eager to upgrade their skills in modern coaching techniques.
During the closing ceremony, the participants received Certificates of Participation in recognition of their commitment and achievement.
Uganda Athletics Federation President Domenic Otucet praised the coaches for their dedication, calling on them to put their new skills into practice to nurture the next generation of champions.
“We expect you to go out there, commit yourselves, and transform this knowledge into results because Uganda needs more world-class athletes, and that responsibility begins with you,” Otucet said.
He further urged coaches to focus on long-term athlete development and to handle young athletes—especially those under 16—with patience and care, allowing them to grow naturally rather than being rushed through early stages of training.
The course is part of World Athletics’ global initiative to enhance the quality of coaching and ensure that athletes receive proper guidance from grassroots to elite levels.
