African Rally Champion Yasin Nasser says winning the continental title is a memorable career milestone after becoming the first Ugandan to claim the crown since Charles Muhangi in 1999.
While receiving the Fortebet Real Stars Sports Award for Best Motorsport Driver of September, the Moil Rally Team driver was in high spirits as he celebrated his African title.
Having edged rival Samman Vohra by just one point to win the championship after five rounds, Nasser reflected on the demanding journey to victory.
“It was not a good start to the event in Naivasha, but we finished third. As we proceeded, we continued well until the last round in Tanzania. All the events are difficult, but it’s about team effort to get results,” he said.
He described the triumph as a defining moment in his career.
“It’s a dream come true to win the title. Maybe it will hit us hard when we reach the FIA Awards in December,” Nasser added.
Super welterweight boxer Muzamir Kakande, who won the British Commonwealth Silver Super Welterweight title last month, received the boxing accolade, while Vipers SC defender Hillary Mukundane scooped the football award.
Veteran weightlifting coach Ali Kavuma was recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Fortebet Real Stars Sports Monthly Awards aim to recognize outstanding sportsmen and women for their exceptional performances.
