The SMACK League, powered by Guinness, returns this Sunday, October 12, at the IUEA Sports Grounds in Kansanga for Matchday 2 of Season 8.
After an action-packed opening weekend filled with goals, music, and high energy, the old boys’ league is ready to serve up another dose of excitement for both fans and players.
Among the standout fixtures is the derby between Devilz (2004) and Outkasts (2005), with both sides desperate to grab their first win of the campaign. Windows (2003) will lock horns with Bushmen (2001), while Mafiaz (2011) take on Vikingz (2014) and Zimbaz (2006) battle the seasoned Mama Teo Legends (’80–’98).
Elite (2008) and Gladiatorz (2016) come into the weekend in hot form after having multiple players in the Team of the Week from Matchday One.
Elite’s Paul Bate, who was named Player of the Week after scoring twice in a 2–0 win over Outkasts, will again be one to watch as his side faces Block Owners (2002) in a tightly matched mid-morning tie.
In Group A, four teams — Zimbaz, Vendorz, Bushmen, and Elite — opened their campaigns with strong wins. Their unbeaten starts put pressure on Zuluz, Outkasts, Mama Teo Legends, Devilz, and Windows, who will all be fighting to bounce back.
Group B saw no stalemates on opening weekend, with Vulcanz, Gladiators, Cyclones, Mafiaz, Phantomz, and Pirates all picking up wins to lead the standings. Lycanz, Spartans, Vikingz, Knights, and Tsunamis will be aiming to respond and revive their early-season form.
David Kawooya, Chief Marketing Officer of the SMACK League, said the anticipation for Matchday 2 is already high. “We are building on the momentum from Matchday One, which was a real statement of how far this league has come. Everyone should expect top-level competition, music, great vibes, and of course, Guinness,” he said.
Mercy Atwongyeire, Project Manager for Premium Beer at Uganda Breweries Limited, said Guinness is proud to continue fueling the spirit of the league.
“Matchday One set the tone. We saw passion, energy, and connection — that’s everything Guinness stands for. This weekend, we’re taking it a notch higher. We’re committed to making every matchday unforgettable,” she noted.
With teams chasing momentum and Guinness promising another lively experience, Matchday 2 is set to keep the SMACK League flame burning bright.
